Repaints...soonish, okay, I'm sidetracking

Thu Jan 15, 2009, 4:21 PM
Soooo, how ya'll doin'? hopefully everyone had a decent holi...winter season. I know I did, but I won't bore you with that(whoever those two or three readers are :D).

Now, there's been a bit of a hangup with the repaints...what? don't look at me like that, I've got a good reason this time, honest...

Anyway, I was talking to a new aquaintance of mine the other day, we eventually moved on to the subject of repainting, it was then that I got put on to this cleaning solution called "Simple Green", wonderful stuff, really, let a figure soak in it overnight and the paint just puckers up like a raisin, then just sloughs off with a quick blast of water and just a little scrubbing(should have taken up Aerotech instead, fewer tiny niches). Best part though, wont melt those ever-so-finicky plastic figures :D.

Which means it's going to be awhile tiil any show up here...but hey, look at the bright side! I'll be doing step-by-step photos.

In the meantime, I've decided to take up knitting again...what? It's perfectly masculine...yes, really...maybe I should elaborate.
Last year, I felt I needed a new hobby(well, I actually just need a life, but this is a passable substitute for now), so I decided to take up knitting, chain maille that is.

you'll see some of the old WIP shots I took over the next few days. might even do a tutorial if anyone wants it.

talk to y'all later.

Man, whenever I come to your profile, it makes me want to go out, buy model and build it ASAP. Very inspiring. I used to love to build fighters and paint 'em up, add washes to bring out the depth, dry bushing to bring out the highlights and the weathering to add character.

*goes off to find a nice, big model of an F-16 Block 52*

Thanks so much, it really means alot to me to hear that, I know I'm not necessarily good, but hearing that at least one person likes them makes it worth it to me. Even better that it's more than one :D

I've actually got a HUGE backlog of figures I've been meaning to get photos of though, they're building up on a shelf right now, and to be honest, I think they're starting to resent me for it :P

Hey, dude, You have quite a grasp on model painting. I'd love to see the rest of your stuff!

What kind of paint to you use? Oil or Acrylic?

I'm an oil man. Love my Testors paint!

Thanks, I'll manage to get it all up here eventually. To be completely honest I'm not exactly sure WHAT kind of paints they are, I'd say acrylic on a guess but they could be latex for all I know :P, it's GW's Citadel Colour, if you happen to know it'd clear alot up for me :D

CC appears to be an acrylic paint. Testor's paint is oil based and requires thinner as opposed to water. Other than the odd experimenting, I've never used acrylic on models myself. I'd be curious about how the acrylic works compared to oil in the whole wash, dry brush and weathering thing. I wouldn't think it would be much, but I wonder about the, hell, I don't know... "feel" of painting with it. It seems it would be less viscous and not be too good on getting into the seams.

Hell, I only use oil because that's what my old man uses on his N-scale trains and it is what I was brought up on =P
